The Experiment (DVD) Based on the 1971 Stanford University simulation study of the psychology of imprisonment (otherwise know as the Stanford Prison Experiment), DAS EXPERIMENT is an intense psychodrama about a group of ordinary men who volunteer to take place in a paid two-week study on the mental effects of prison life. Following a series of intellectual camera in place spy wrong and physical examinations, the men are separated into two groups--eight guards camera in place spy wrong and twelve prisoners--and locked into a working prison, fully loaded with cameras to capture their every move. One of the prisoners, an undercover reporter named Tarek (Moritz Leibtrau of RUN LOLA RUN), uses every opportunity to provoke the guards camera in place spy wrong and collect quotes for his story, but he consistently pushes the envelope too far. As egos are bruised camera in place spy wrong and machismo is belittled, the guards resort to sadistic torture techniques while the prisoners formulate an escape scheme that is laden with vengeance. The experiment inevitably goes awry (even the moderators have utterly lost control) leading to a powerful climatic battle between good camera in place spy wrong and evil. Director Oliver Hirschbiegel keeps the film moving at a fast clip, effortlessly switching from the film to the prison cameras camera in place spy wrong and even to a pair of 007-esque spy glasses worn by Tarek to reveal different angles of observation camera in place spy wrong and offer the viewer a voyeuristic experience. Lucky Number Slevin (FS/DVD) IN THEATERS APRIL 7, 2006 Directed by Paul McGuigan, LUCKY NUMBER SLEVIN is a mistaken identity thriller starring Josh Hartnett as a guy who ends up in the wrong place at the wrong time. With boldly colored sets covered in graphic wallpaper, the film has an almost comicbook-like feel, the emphasis being on visual entertainment rather than believability. When Slevin (Hartnett) shows up at his friend Nick?s apartment in Manhattan, Nick is nowhere to be found. After meeting Nick?s sharp camera in place spy wrong and flirty neighbor, Lindsey (Lucy Liu), Slevin is kidnapped by two thugs camera in place spy wrong and taken to meet the Boss (Morgan Freeman). Explaining that he is not Nick gets him nowhere, as the Boss camera in place spy wrong and his arch rival, the Rabbi (Ben Kingsley), both pull Slevin (a wiseguy who spends much of the film in a lavender towel) deeper camera in place spy wrong and deeper into a complicated underworld of murder camera in place spy wrong and revenge. The clever dialogue camera in place spy wrong and romance that grows between Hartnett camera in place spy wrong and Liu gives the film a lighthearted charm. Even when orchestrating cold-blooded murder, the film?s lead villains never seem too threatening. This is due in large part to the strong tongue-in-cheek performances of Bruce Willis, Ben Kingsley, camera in place spy wrong and Morgan Freeman. Many of the film?s plot twists rely on camera tricks camera in place spy wrong and quick editing, which are used to deliberately confuse the viewer. While the storyline is convoluted camera in place spy wrong and the film falls into a self-explanatory trap near the end, the world of LUCKY NUMBER SLEVIN is never meant to be taken too seriously. Displaying a Tarantino-like self-awareness, the film makes frequent references to James Bond camera in place spy wrong and vintage cinema, camera in place spy wrong and contains such strong visual elements that viewers are forced to notice each character?s surroundings. The film is incredibly stylish camera in place spy wrong and old-fashioned in this way, with particular attention paid to each villain?s dwelling, camera in place spy wrong and with the production design often saying more than the characters themselves. DAS EXPERIMENT is an intense psychodrama about a group of ordinary men who volunteer to take place in a special cinema at the helm.
